Story Time Jesus is telling a story of unity. On "" you find out that this original painting was inspired to show that Jesus loved sharing about his love for his people and for his Father. He has many people gathered around to show that he has love for every type of race and ethnicity. The painting was to declare that he brings everyone back together again. This message is of the original painting shows that Jesus accepts everyone with love and followers of Jesus should too. This is one of the main principles in Christianity. "We love because he first loved us" There is a very distinct and inviting way about him in just the picture himself. This is present a case that He deserves to be heard and followed.

Politically, Story time Jesus is pleading with the people to stop the nonsense that is happening within the election. The use of a religion to promote your campaign is the exact opposite of what Story time Jesus is warning against. Referring to politics, Jesus could care less about what the people think they need. Individuals are calling out to him and questioning "but what if" or "how about this candidate" and "what is the policy"? Story time Jesus is saying, "Love others, feed the hungry, do justice, help the widow" Story time Jesus is using a blunt one sided conversation to express that followers of Jesus should  filter all that they do, think and respond to politically through Christ's love for his people.

I would say that in the case of Story Time Jesus, it is blending online context with offline context.  There is a seamless connection between the individual using this meme to take practical teachings from the bible and relate them to politics. In Digital Religion, Chapter 4, Heidi Campbell says, "Studies have consistently found that Internet users conceptually and practically connect their online and offline social lives rather than seeing them as separate or disconnected spheres."(Campbell, 2013) The user that created the meme fully knew the context of the miracles performed in the bible. He used what he had taken from religion offline and blended the information onto a online internet outlet. From then on, individuals have taken the Story Time Jesus meme and made it more conversational about current topics, not just old bible stories.

Ideas from lecture to consider:

bridging: offline and online are distinct yet linked
blending: online and offline interconnected so seamless flow between
blurring: online and offline integrated in new content created

My case study focuses on the religion of Christianity. In today’s American culture, it is often complex and interchangeable. Most Christians have picked apart the bible to make it more applicable with how they want to live. In politics, Christianity is looked at as a kick starter for you campaign. Some critiques have pointed out that individuals use their faith to advance their platform. This is not what was intended for followers of Christ. In everyday life and politics Christians are viewed as lukewarm hypocrites or judgmental evangelicals. Story time Jesus expects more from his people however.

After looking as several Story time Jesus memes, I found that He tries to simplify what current day believers have complicated. He is constantly correcting a miscommunication between the church and the word of God. He quotes the bible and uses slight sarcasm to redirect the thought process of people who claim to follow him. Story time Jesus is critiquing present day Christians and their political beliefs. One meme I came across was Story time Jesus scoffing and saying, “Do you guys really think I would vote Republican?” This is implying that followers of Christ need to stop identifying with a party and view the Election as a follower of Christ before filtering it through the “Conservative or Liberal American Mindset.”

Sadly, a majority of political candidates’ motivation to incorporate “God Talk” into their campaign is to ignite their platform and seem more approachable to present day Christians. By having some sort of religious credentials now somehow qualifies you to be the next leader of the United States. What Story Time Jesus is saying is that we have got it all wrong. He is saying, love everyone and to apply that to how you view politics. What he wants to convey is that turning away Syrian Refugees is something He wouldn’t do and if a political candidate is professing Christianity, neither should they.

Story Time Jesus, Syrian Refugees and The Election

For my paper, I plan to study the Story time Jesus meme about religion the Syrian Refugee crisis and the current election candidates. In America today, this is a topic that is alarming to some and second nature to others. Political candidates reference this, current offices holders speak cautiously on it and yet there is still an uproar between conservatives and liberals. There is a strong disconnect when looking at what a majority of Conservative Republicans, who claim to be christian, tend to say contrary to what scripture like Matthew 25 says.

By studying individuals in the current political election who relate to a Christian background, I hope to find a correlation with Christian Liberals adhering to Matthew 25:35-36 saying “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me”. What I am also taking into consideration is the selection of the write in candidates. By having a large number of individuals, I can research multiple election nominees. The memes about religion attached are just a few that related to this topic. I look forward to sharing sobering, honest and convicting research
